With the increasing number of workers needed in the Permian Basin of West Texas and Southeast New Mexico, the industry has put a strain on the region’s infrastructure and vital service systems. Most of the workers flocking to the area are younger families with children, which has caused the region’s schools to come up with short and long term solutions to handle the strain of new families. Also, thousands of heavy trucks are needed for transport and this is taking a toll on the safety of the area’s county roads. The region has many other challenges ahead to prepare for the anticipated huge growth taking place in the Permian Basin. Due to all of these strains the Permian Strategic Partnership was formed.
The Permian Strategic Partnership (PSP) is a non profit organization formed by 20 of the largest producers in the oil and gas industry. Its main purpose is to partner with local leaders to address the concerns and work towards solutions. The initial commitment of these companies is over $100 million dollars. They want to improve the quality of life for the Permian Basin families. This is a new organization and many of the details of how everything will flow are still being worked out. They will be partnering to build new roads and schools, recruiting doctors and teachers, improving housing options and healthcare, and the overall resources in these communities.
